Brand & digital studio

Ideas worth keeping, drawn out properly.

Cedar Quill is a small independent studio. We build the identity, the interface and the words that carry it — one considered project at a time, with the people who will live with the result.

Capabilities

Three practices, one team around the table.

Most engagements begin in one column and quietly borrow from the other two. You work with the same people throughout — no handover to a delivery pod you have never met.

Brand systems

A name and a logo are the easy part. We build the whole apparatus that keeps a brand recognisable once dozens of people start using it.

  • Positioning and messaging framework
  • Identity, type and colour system
  • Art direction and photography briefs
  • Guidelines your team will actually open

Digital product

Marketing sites and product interfaces designed against real content, real constraints and the browser people will genuinely use.

  • Structure, flows and content modelling
  • Interface design and component libraries
  • Accessible, responsive front-end build
  • Handover into your stack or CMS

Editorial & campaign

The long-form side of a brand: reports, launch stories and campaign work that sound like one voice rather than four departments.

  • Tone of voice and copy direction
  • Reports, prospectuses and publications
  • Launch and campaign concepts
  • Templates for in-house teams

How we work

Four stages, and you are in all of them.

Every project runs on the same spine. It is deliberately short, so you always know what is happening this fortnight and what you owe us.

01

Orient

A working week of conversations, audit and reading. We come back with what we think the real problem is — which is not always the one in the brief.

02

Frame

Positioning, structure and territory. Two or three routes, shown flat and honestly, with the reasoning attached so you can argue with it.

03

Make

The chosen direction built out properly across the pieces that matter, reviewed in short cycles rather than one large reveal at the end.

04

Hand over

Files, systems and a session with the people who inherit them. We stay reachable for the first months while the work settles in.

Selected work

Recent engagements.

A short, representative selection. Fuller case notes — including the parts that went sideways — are something we walk through in conversation.

Marlowe House

A ten-room guesthouse that had outgrown its handwritten charm. New identity, signing system and a booking site their front desk can update without us.

Fenwick Ledger

An accounting tool for small practices. We restructured the onboarding, rebuilt the component library and gave the team a design language they maintain.

The Alder Trust

Fifteen years of woodland research turned into one annual report and a set of templates, so each region now publishes in the same voice.

The studio

Small on purpose.

Cedar Quill is a team of seven working from one room. We take on a handful of engagements a year because the alternative — more clients, thinner attention — is the thing we left larger agencies to avoid.

“If we cannot explain why a decision was made, it was probably decoration.”

  • TeamStrategy, design, writing and front-end under one roof
  • EngagementsSix to eight projects a year, run in sequence

Questions

Before you write to us.

How large a project do you usually take on?

Most engagements run between six and sixteen weeks. We also take smaller, clearly-scoped pieces — a naming exercise, a report, a single product flow — when they can sit alongside a larger project without crowding it.

When could you start?

Because we run projects in sequence rather than in parallel, there is usually a wait of four to eight weeks. Tell us your own deadline in the form and we will be straight with you about whether it is realistic.

Do we need to be in the same city?

No. The studio is remote-first and most reviews happen over a call with the work on screen. For the opening workshop and the handover session we will happily travel to you, and we build that into the proposal.

What happens after handover?

You receive the working files, the source code where relevant, and a recorded walkthrough for whoever inherits the system. For the first three months we stay on hand for questions at no extra cost.

Tell us what you are trying to do.

A paragraph is plenty to begin with. If it looks like a fit, we will suggest a call; if it does not, we will say so and point you somewhere better.

  • What you get backA considered reply from one of the three people who would actually run the work.
  • What we will ask nextYour timing, who needs to approve it, and what has already been tried.
  • No obligationProposals are written after the first conversation, not before.

We read everything ourselves and reply within two working days.
